Becoming a Change-Maker
No one has to
remain stuck in a certain class or stereotype, environment, and/or attitude.
Just because it is does not mean it has to be. “If you want to be a hero, you
must decide to be a person who acts, rather than a person who says “I can’t’”.
You make deliberate choices that will change your life. You can take steps-many
small ones, occasionally a big one—toward your chosen goal, your star, your
grail. Then do more than wish. Commit yourself, body and soul, to fining and
following your heroic path”.
When I was younger
my dad was the one who engraved these beliefs into me. My older brother would
tease and tease and tease until I allowed myself to react in a wild
repercussion. This led to time on the timeout couch, holding my brother’s hand,
till we could both say I’m sorry and we loved each other. About halfway through
the process my dad would ask if we were ready to do so, driven and prideful I
would proclaim it wasn’t my fault he made me angry! Leading to more time on the
couch to continue to think about the situation and get bored enough that I’d
apologize. It took years of my dad’s counseling for me to admit that Josh (my
brother) did not make me mad, but I in fact chose to become angered by his
relentlessness.
All choices lead
to regression or progression, and too often we place consequences for our
actions and decisions on situational circumstance and/or others individuals.
There is power in receiving counsel from others, but ultimately the decision
needs to be ours. Do not just follow the most popular business trends, for
therein lies destruction. Make decisions personal for individuals who need
help. Make decisions by the spirit and by personal passions, not based off what
others tell us we should do with our talents and assets, or else we’ll miss the
mark very badly.
Becoming consumed
by the influence of others chains dreams to forever remain a twinkling star far
in the distance, while you remain anxious and complacently in the same rut of
the old road you’ve been walking down your entire miserable existence. So,
don’t give concoct excuses, create results.
